This past Tuesday (March 29th) the organization founded by Fr. Jon Cortina to search for children taken during the civil war, Pro-Busqueda, was honored by the President Funes of El Salvador.
March 29, 2011 was deemed “Day of the Children Disappeared During the Army Conflict” in honor of Pro-Busqueda’s work and that of the Fr. Cortina.
President Funes apologized on behalf of the government for the abduction of children during the war. This follows his 2010 apology for all human rights abuses committed by the government during the war.
Fr. Cortina’s work continues to inspire change and action in his adopted homeland as well as influence our own community at Creighton University.
