So, I recently came across the video. It’s worth the watch. Take the time to just be present to the ideas and voices here.
Part of the video asks, “What is the meaning of life?”
Of course that is a question without complete answer.
Consider answering the questions asked for yourself.
Why are you here?
What motivates you, love or fear?
Do you believe in government?
Do you think they have your best interests at heart?
What does freedom mean to you?
What makes you happy in life?
What’s the meaning of life?
For me, part of that answer comes in our ability to create alongside God. To add color and sound and vibrancy to our reality. That’s the essence of life — it’s movement, change, dynamism over the silent stasis. That’s part of it.
But there is something more fundamental. Something that resonates more fully — one of the questions Luke asked in the video is “what makes you happy in life?” I quickly muttered, “life, itself” Not seconds later, someone repeated the same words. Such a moment of consolation.
That’s something we should always remember — that God is as close as our own breath. That life, in the words of Frederick Buechner, is itself grace.
Yes, we should always remember.
Take a deep breath in.
Feel your heart beat.
Hear the bird sing.
You are alive.
