This morning, much to my surprise, I realized “finals week” is not a national-event. I guess that means there are still things happening in this big ‘ol country of ours. Let’s learn about a few of them.

Local News

Did you know same-sex couples in Nebraska aren’t allowed to be foster parents? The Nebraska legislature has been discussing that and other LGBT issues in preparation for the next session.

Look out Don Quixote, Omaha now has plans to double its wind energy production by January 2014.

Nebraska school officials accused of failing to report assault on a high school wrestling team have not been charged.

National News

The Michigan legislature barely passed “right to work” legislation, and a lot of people are really mad.

The U.S. 7th Circuit court of appeals overturned Illinois’s ban of concealed weapons. No word yet on whether another appeal will be fired..filed.

Justice Scalia says the constitution is “dead, dead, dead, dead.”  In light of upcoming discussion of the possible federal right to marry.

A recent poll shows that, among South Carolina voters, Stephen Colbert is the favorite to replace U.S. senator Jim DeMint. That would be awesome.
